Clinical & Sports Massage Therapy
Clinical Remedial Massage Therapy
My clinical remedial massage treatment focuses on tracing the patterns in pain and injury to find and treat the real cause of your discomfort.
A lot of headaches, jaw-clenching or neck pain, for example, are associated not with the head, but with a problem in the upper back or shoulder. And pain in your lower back may well come from tightness higher up in the middle back, lower down in the buttock or hamstring, or from some imbalance in your pelvis.
I target specific areas of muscle tightness and fatigue with a tailored combination of massage therapy and a variety of other techniques for working with the body. My approach can incorporate a rich mix of techniques including:
- Swedish massage
- trigger point therapy
- deep tissue massage
- myofascial release (MFR)
- soft tissue release (STR)
- advanced stretching techniques – e.g. passive, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), active isolated stretching (AIS)
- acupressure
Although my aim is to reduce your pain and improve your condition within three to six regular treatments, most people notice improvements even after their first treatment.
The most common complaints and conditions I treat with clinical remedial massage include:
- back pain
- trapped nerve
- hip and pelvis pain
- sciatica
- piriformis syndrome (sharp buttock pain)
- neck and shoulder problems
- rotator cuff injuries
- frozen shoulder
- tennis/golfer’s elbow
- repetitive strain injury (RSI)
- Injuries, e.g. sprains, strains, inflammation, muscle tears
- carpal tunnel and wrist problems
- headaches and migraines
- stress, tension, anxiety
- jaw problems, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), e.g. grinding teeth, clenching jaw
- knee problems
- shin splints
- plantar fasciitis (foot pain)
- sporting
Sports Massage
My sports massage can help you recover more quickly between workout sessions, enable you to exercise more frequently, enhance your performance in training or competition and improve your general mobility. I can also help you recover from an injury more quickly.
But sports massage is not just about sport – it’s a highly effective treatment for anyone that wants to improve their flexibility, ease tight or painful muscles from an everyday injury or poor posture or deal with the tension that comes with hours spent working at a desk or sitting down for long periods.
While regular sports massages are essential for anyone who’s training for an event or competes regularly, everybody can benefit – whether you run in parks or in marathons, play football, tennis, cricket or golf, work out at the gym or dance, whether you’re busy looking after a family, work in an office or run your own business.
The most common injuries and pain I treat with sports massage include:
- neck strain, frozen shoulder
- rotator cuff injury
- tennis/golfer’s elbow
- pulled muscles
- lower back pain
- piriformis syndrome
- groin strain
- hamstring ‘pull’
- knee injuries
- shin splints
- Achilles tendinopathy
- plantar fasciitis (foot pain)
Along with massage therapy, I may help you work on your flexibility with more advanced stretching and contracting exercises – like proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).
